Maybe if I ran far enough away, I'd never have to hear again. I could stay in my wolf form, I wouldn't be the first one to choose this form over the other. I howled with pain, but it didn't go away. I knew that the only way to escape my pain was to run, but I slowed down to think. I turned back to my my human form and sat down on a rock and tried to keep my thoughts together. It broke my heart to know Bella would marry that man, actually he was a vampire, a hideous parasite who also happened to be my mortal enemy, the one creature that I had to protect my family and my reservation from, but it wouldn't be any good if Bella died today. I couldn't take the risk not to fight against those bloodsuckers who wanted to kill Bella. I was just about to turn back to my wolf form when Edward dashed next to me and held my shoulders as if that could've stop me from changing my form.
"I'm sorry, Jacob. It was an improper way to tell you, and it really hurt Bella, would you come back to the meadow?" He murmured with his eyes studying my eyes. Yes indeed it was an improper way to tell me; he let me eavesdrop on their conversation and let me hear about their engagement that way! And now I didn't have even that little hope that I had before. Still I agreed to see Bella, to say goodbye.
So we ran through the forest, a werewolf and a vampire. I could hear what others were thinking. Few of them understood how I felt, few of them didn't really care, but most of them were pretty mad at me. We came to the meadow and I saw Bella there and she walked to me. It hurt so much to see her crying, but I acted dull. She whispered her apologies and I told her how it was OK even when it wasn't. She begged me to stay and not to go to the battle. I was going I turned around to leave when she fell to her knees and whispered, "Will you kiss me, Jacob?" And I was sure she was bluffing, but I walked to her picked her up and then bent to kiss her. And to my surprise she didn't resist. It was different from the times we kissed before, it was soft and gentle. I curled my arms around her and hugged her and whispered to her ear "First kiss. Better late than never."
Then I walked away and never looked back again.
