Kun silmiimme joutuu shampoota Head and Shoulders tai PanteneProV, huuhtelemme äkkiä tuon pienen pisaran pois, koska se tuntuu epämiellyttävältä. Mutta tuo sama shampoo aiheutti aikaisemmin kipua toisellekin eliölle, tosin kipu oli paljon voimakkaampaa. Silmiinne joutui vain pieni pisara, sen sijaan albiino-kanin silmälle sitä kaadettiin teelusikallisen verran. Te huuhtelitte sen pois, mutta kanilla ei ollut mahdollisuutta hieroa tämän kirvelevän tahmeaa ainetta pois: ensinnäkin kanilta puuttuu kyynelnesteen eritys ja toisteksi hänen liikkumisensa on estetty. Kun silmää kirvelee, minuuttikin tuntuu ikuisuudelta. Shampoo pidetään kanin silmässä kolmen viikon ajan. Joiltakin eläimiltä katkeaa selkäranka ja kaula, kun ne yrittävät päästä karkuun.
Mainokset kertovat meille jatkuvasti, että ihmiset jotka eivät käytä astianpesuainetta nimeltä Fairy, menettävät hyvin paljon (aikaa, mahdollisuuden pitää hauskaa, rahaa jne). Mutta ehkäpä juuri nämä ''epäsivistyneet'' ihmiset, heidän tietämättään, toimivat koe-eläinten parhaaksi: he eivät osta Fairyä ja sillä tavalla eivät kannata rottien ja marsujen pakollista ruokintaa astianpesuaineilla. Kun olette syönyt liikaa raskasta ruokaa, tunnette olonne todella pahaksi ja raskaaksi, joskus joudutte ottamaan lääkkeitä, jotka parantavat ruoansulatusta. Mutta kuvitelkaapa, jos teidän mahalaukkuunne viedään putken kautta litra Fairya!
Ariel -pesuaineen pakkauksessa lukee, että sitä on käytettävää suojakäsineet käsissä, koska se syövyttää käsien ihoa. Jo pelkästään tämä aiheuttaa epämiellyttävää tunnetta ja kipua. Mutta kuvitelkaapa, miltä tuntuu marsuilta, kaneilta, koirilta, kissoilta ja muilta koe-eläimiltä, kun niiltä poistetaan ylempi ihokerros hiekkapaperia apuna käyttäen ja hierotaan paljaaseen kohtaan pesuainetta. Muistelkaamme lapsuutemme, kun kaaduimme asfaltille ja vahingoitimme polvemme. Tosin silloin kukaan ei hieronut haavaan syövyttävää pesuainetta.
Vuonna 2001 Euroopan Unioni suuntasi kulkunsa tuotteiden testauksen eläimillä vähentämiseen ja vähitellen sen kokonaan lopettamiseen. Vuoteen 2013 mennessä suurin osa eläinkoemenetelmistä kielletään.
Suomessa myytäviä kosmetiikkasarjoja, jotka eivät testaa tuotteitaan eläimillä ovat esimerkiksi kuuluisa The Body Shop ja Joe Blasco. Suomen johtavimmista sarjoista Lumene, Nivea, Herbina ja Anytime käyttävät vaihtoehtoisia testausmenetelmiä eivätkä myöskään testaa tuotteitaan eläimillä. Kuuluisat Yves Rocher, Chanel, Clarins, IsaDora sekä Revlon eivät myöskään kannata eläinkokeita, eivätkä myöskään testaa tuotteitaan koe-eläimillä. Tämän vuoksi edellämainittuja merkkejä kannattaa suosia.
Sen sijaan yritykset, jotka yhä käyttävät eläimiä tuotteiden testauksessa, ovat esimerkiksi kuuluisat Braun (Gillette Company), Procter and Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive (Ajax, Hill's Pet Nutrition, Mennen, Palmolive), Coty (Calvin Klein, Rimmel), Gillette, Johnson and Johnson, L'oréal, MaxFactor, Oral-B, Pantene ja moni muu.
Muistakaa: joka ikinen ostamanne pakkaus pesuainetta Ariel tai Tide, jokainen tuubi Oral-B:tä, jokainen Pantenen hiustenhoitoaine, kaikki Palmoliven käsisaippuat tai L'oréalin meikkivoiteet ovat turhien ja julmien eläinkokeiden rahoittamista. Jos ostatte eläinkokeita hyväksyvien yrityksen tuotteita, hyväksytte vapaaehtoisesti julmien eläinkokeiden käytön. Sen sijaan jos hankitte vaihtoehtoisia ja inhimillisiä testeusmenetelmiä käyttävien yritysten tuotteita, autatte vähentämään hirveää julmuutta.
