The Music

The Monday Mornings are a band built around the sumptuous storytelling of singer/songwriter Michael Mearns. Mearnsʼ viciously flat and swaggering vocals mingle with wandering string arrangements and intricately landscaped guitars to craft buoyant pop songs and melancholy anthems about loss, love and the bewildering human condition.

Drawing from the style and spirit of John Lennon, Jack Kerouac and Elliot Smith, and all the dark gray days of the North Puget Sound the music is born and breathed from, Mearns weaves careful tapestries of repeating melodies and lyrical themes.

The forlorn harmonies of Swallow Down the Days (2008) raise questions about the conscious state of time and offer a dark prologue to the band’s current chapter, Fireweed Parade responds with tales through the destructive depths of addiction and destruction to find the listless presence love.

More than anything, The Monday Mornings make pop songs to be listened to and enjoyed. Something to tap your feet and your brain to. Enjoy.

The Band

The Monday Mornings started as the solo Project of Michael Mearns in 2008. After gathering friends and fellow musicians Katie Mosehauer (The Thoughts, Lucy Bland, Carrie Biell), Thomas Erak (The Fall of Troy), and Evan Robertson (Catapults), Mearns and the future Monday Mornings headed into the studio to record his first full length record "Swallow Down the Days".

The band headed back into the studio in 2009 to begin their second full-length, pulling in Jay Beaman (School yard Heroes, Just Like Vinyl) to fill in on drums. During the recording process Mearns halted all live performances due to an overwhelming battle with stage-fright and crippling social anxiety.

Mearns abruptly left Seattle, leaving fellow band members to finish the album. After months in the mountains of New Hampshire writing and posting songs as the Birch Bark Beggar, the singer/songwriter returned to the Seattle area and began picking up the pieces of the band.

In April 2010, tragedy struck and Monday Mornings bassist Evan Robertson lost his battle with addiction and passed away. Completely destroyed by the loss of their band-mate and friend, all band activity halted.

After months of hiatus to deal with their bereavement, the remaining Monday Mornings' began once again to try to piece the band together. Pulling in friends Ian Williams (The Thoughts) on bass, Andrew Forsman (The Fall of Troy) on drums, and adding guitarist Jim Petosa (Lydia), the band is currently rehearsing to release the long awaited "Fireweed Parade" in January 2011.
