Where has moral disappeared?Tiistai 14.02.2006 20:19

In a world where everyone lives only for themselves the concept of moral is distorded. If no one other than you holds you accountable for your actions what reasons are there to follow moral, to do what is good and avoid harming others? The fact is that everyone has their own moral calculator in themselves and at least when I do something wrong my bad conscience is killing me, that's the reason why I try to avoid it. But then there are people who don't care. People who live for themselves and inevitably end up harming others. Maybe their understanding of moral is not that deep. If other people's feelings were totally secondary to you, don't you think relationships would lose their meaning?
People are taught to primarily think about themselves and not to live for anyone else. The concept of moral exists to prevent people from becoming conceited monsters who don't look further than their own navel. Till this day on, I have done my best to live by the golden rule 'treat others as you wish to be treated' but in a world where not everyone follows the rule, is it totally worthless?

Think of a world where everyone treated others as they themselves wish to be treated. How beautiful would that be.
