Rebirth
Spring has arrived and with it
this yearly restlessness.
My heart beats faster,
breaths get shallower -
as if I’m racing to some
unknown destination.
Maybe I should blame the sun
for rising too early in the morning
or maybe the songbirds
for waking me up to see it.
Colour is flooding back
as the frozen rivers thaw,
bewildering wildflowers and feeding
fluffy catkins on pussy willows.
It’s a crazed frenzy of a mother
bringing her children back to life.
I feel small and insignificant
as I observe this glorious
display of controlled chaos
as the earth is birthed anew.
