Näin pelataan
Joukkueet on jaettu neljään alkulohkoon. Yksinkertaisen sarjan jälkeen alkulohkojen kolme parasta joukkuetta pääsevät jatkoon. Lohkoista A ja D kootaan jatkolohko F ja Lohkoista B ja C kootaan jatko-lohko E. Alkulohkosta jatkoon päässeiden joukkueiden keskinäisten pelien pisteet lasketaan jatkolohkoon alkupisteiksi.

Jatkolohkossa pelataan kaikkia niitä joukkueita vastaan, jotka eivät olleet omassa alkulohkossa. Jatkolohkoista E ja F pääsevät jatkoon neljä parasta ja nämä pelaavat keskenään puolivälierät siten, että lohkon paras pelaa toisen lohkon neljänneksi parasta vastaan ja lohkon kakkonen pelaa toisen lohkon kolmosta vastaan.

Puolivälierien voittajat pelaavat keskenään välierät siten että E1/F4-otteluparin voittaja pelaa F2/E3-otteluparin voittajaa vastaan ja F1/E4-parin voittaja pelaa E2/F3-parin voittajaa vastaan. Välierin voittajat pelaavat keskenään loppuottelun ja häviäjät pronssiottelun.

Alkulohkojen viimeisiksi jääneet pelaavat keskenään yksinkertaisen karsintasarjan, josta kaksi heikointa tippuu I divisioonaan.

Viime vuonna Suomi onnistui muutaman kuivan vuoden jälkeen nousemaan mitaleille. Puolivälierissä kaatui Valko-Venäjä, mutta Tshekki oli välierissä liian kova pala. Pronssiotteluun joukkue sai kuitenkin sen verran ryhtiä, että välierätappion musertamat kanadalaiset kaatuivat selvin 0-5 -numeroin.

Suomen kaatanut Tshekki puolestaan hävisi loppuottelussa Ruotsille selvästi 4-0 -lukemin. Ruotsin hieno kiekkovuosi täydentyi olympiakullan jälkeen maailmanmestaruudella.

Viime vuonna yksi suurimpia pettymyksiä oli tämän vuoden isäntäjoukkue Venäjä. Joukkue voitto oman jatkolohkonsa, mutta kompastui puolivälierissä toisen jatkolohkon neljänneksi jääneelle Tshekille. Edellisen kerran kisojen isäntäjoukkue on voittanut maailmanmestaruuden vuonna 1986 juuri Moskovassa, joten Venäjä tulee olemaan viime aikojen pettymysten jälkeen entistäkin nälkäisempi vastus kotikisoissa.

Spartalainen poika sai olla kotonaan vain seitsenvuotiaaksi, mutta jo sitä ennen häntä kasvatettiin erikoisella tavalla. Vauvoja ei kapaloitu, jotta jäsenet kehittyisivät paremmin. Heidät totutettiin pimeään ja yksinäisyyteen. Ruokapöydässä ei saanut oikutella eikä temppuilla. Pojat opetettiin puhumaan lyhyesti ja nasevasti. Tällaista kutsutaan vieläkin lakoniseksi (lakedaimon) puhetavaksi.

Seitsemänvuotiaana pojat otettiin valtion huostaan. Heidät jaettiin ryhmiin iän perusteella. Tärkeintä oli oppia tottelemaan, kestämään ja voittamaan. Pojilta ajeltiin hiukset ja takavarikoitiin mahdolliset jalkineet. He kulkivat ohuilla vaateilla ja paljain jaloin ympäri vuoden. Kahdennestatoista ikävuodesta lähtien pojille alettiin antaa viittoja. Juhlapäivinä he saivat kylpeä. Ruoska viuhahti vähimmästäkin rikkomuksesta. Ateriat olivat tarkoituksellakin niukkoja, jotta pojat varastaisivat ruokansa ja oppisivat viekkautta. Jos he jäivät kiinni, heitä ruoskittiin, ei siksi, että oli varastanut, vaan siksi, että oli ollut taitamaton.

16-vuotiaina pojille järjestettiin miehuuskokeita, joissa piti esimerkiksi varastaa juustoa alttarilta, jota muut nuorukaiset vahtivat ruoskat ja seipäät aseinaan. Joskus koe muuttui kestävyyskokeeksi, jossa kokelaat saatettiin ruoskia puolikuoliaaksi. Merkillinen miehuuskoe oli "lymyily" (krypteia), jossa poikien oli ensin piileskeltävä tietty aika yksinään maaseudulla ja sen jälkeen lähdettävä ihmissuden lailla metsästämään helootteja. Ainakin yksi helootti oli surmattava.

Ruumiinharjoitusten lisäksi pojat opetettiin vain lukemaan, kirjoittamaan ja laulamaan kuorolauluja. Kuorolaulu edisti sotajoukkojen täsmällisyyttä. Koska kasvatus keskittyi fyysisiin harjoituksiin, ei olekaan ihme, että spartalaiset menestyivät olympiakisoissa.

Spartalaisen miehen kasarmielämä kesti 30-vuotiaaksi asti, jonka jälkeen hän sai muuttaa perheensä luo.

A Swedish court has ruled that the parents of a seven-month-old girl in Kungälv, Sweden can name their child Metallica, according to the Swedish newspaper GP. The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names. After picking Metallica and checking twice with the Swedish tax agency Skatteverket if the name was acceptable, they were told that it shouldn't be a problem since there is already a girl in Sweden called Metallica. When they filed Metallica as one of the girl's three first names, the Skatteverket suddenly objected, claiming that the name was inappropriate because a famous hard rock band bears that name and the fact that it's too close to the word "metal." The parents filed an appeal with the district court, which has now ruled that the use of the name won't pose any problems for either the girl or anyone that she comes in contact with. One member of the jury objected to the ruling, claiming that the name probably will cause discomfort to the person who bears it.

Marraskuussa Iron Maideniä sekä Tampereen jäähallissa että kahdella Hartwall Areenan keikalla 30.000 hengen edessä lämmitellyt Trivium palaa keväällä odotetulle omalle klubikeikalle Suomeen. Floridalainen thrashmetalliyhtye nousee 8. toukokuuta Nosturin lavalle Helsingissä. Illasta tulee komea, sillä Triviumia ennen esiintyy pitkän linjan metalliyhtye kanadalainen Annihilator.

”Best International Newcomer 2005” palkinnon Kerrang! –lehden äänestyksessä voittanut Trivium löi itsensä läpi samana vuonna julkaistulla kakkosalbumillaan ”Ascendancy”. Sanoitukset käsittelivät lasten hyväksikäyttöä, parisuhdeväkivaltaa, itsemurhia ja sananvapautta. Lokakuussa ilmestyi mm. kunniamurhaa ja viattomien surmaamista käsittelevä kolmas kokopitkä ”The Crusade”.

Metallicalta, Megadethiltä, Slayeriltä ja Panteralta vaikutteita saaneen nuoren nelikon laulaja/kitaristi Matt Heafy on ilmoittanut Triviumin olevan seuraava Metallica.

Toukokuun keikka on osa MTV HeadbangerÂ’s Ball klubien sarjaa.
