In Japan, when our 20th birthday comes, we are legally adults.
So we can vote, drink and smoke from that day.
The ceremony held on Coming of Age Day is just a tradition to make new adults realize that they are no longer children and must have responsibility as adults. The ceremony itself has no legal meaning.
